All of the structure and organization for such a thing comes strictly from the community. So, does that mean both players had to be hostile? Does that mean it was only 1v1? What about if there are monsters or other players around? Are there dedicated dueling locations? Actually, looking ahead I can see that there are no such locations. You say you flag as hostile and then go duel. It's all based on GM (Good Mannered) or Pub Duels, but anything worth looking into has it's own community structure, rules, and requirements. There's no endless rifts or maps like PoE/D3, so PvP is just something else to do in the game.Īdded: There's no arenas or battlegrounds or structure in-game. You just MF for like a Holy Grail accomplishment (solo finding all uniques yourself) or make every class or whatever. How prevalent is it? There's really not much to do at end-end game. I don't know where currently though, someone else can answer I'm sure. Is there organized competition? Community organized, yes. These require you to look for specific gear that doesn't require a higher level than the limitations imposed. What are the prerequisites? Gear usually, or self imposed limitations like level 18 duels, or level 49 duels etc. What is the goal? To beat the other person What detracts from it? People don't like PvP? For example, there will be Melee Only Duel games, because most Melee classes get stomped by range/caster, unless build specifically to counter them or using cheese strats like absorb gear. There's nothing that's done to balance it per se, but thats why group duels or like 3v3 and such exist, to offer more options and a bit more balance than class vs class.

How is it balanced? A > B > C > A some classes just stomp others, but also gear dependent and skill dependent. There's glitches that were baked into dueling like Weapon Swap Glitch, but it'll remain to be seen what still exists in D2R.

What are the exploits? I'm not familiar with all of them currently. What is the value? Something else to work towards gear-wise, and bragging rights. There's nothing built into the game to accomodate it past that, it's pretty much community run leagues/brackets or just public duel games. How does it work? - You flag as Hostile and go Duel.
